If we do that, and imagine that representation effects the existence of its objects, but then we are aware that this process is not under the control of our will or individual imagination, the solution might be to postulate a meta-consciousness, a mind itself possessing intellectual intuition, of which we are merely a part. Habermas’s The Theory of Communicative Action (1981) was devoted in part to developing an account of truth in terms that did not imply that there exists an “absolute” truth of the kind traditionally posited by metaphysics. Nietzsche often sacrificed clarity for poetry and lyrical power. I’d add Husserl as a core common ancestor (as my understanding is that Husserl/Frege were working on very similar issues, actually reviewing and talking about each others’ work, but their disciples led to quite different styles of philosophy (crazy Heideggarian stuff on one side, crazy Russelian stuff on the other)). It might need to realize that all reasoning must assume that logic is meaningful and necessary; that language is intricately connected with our ability to convey meaning, and that epistemology is one of the most crucial areas to investigate: whenever we are making assertions or expounding propositions we act as if our ability to know is correct and justified.
