Charakteristisch für sein Bemühen, das ursprüngliche Benennungsmotiv und damit den ‘etymologischen’ Kern eines Wortes herauszustellen, war, daß er auch auf die jeweiligen Bezeichnungen in anderen lebenden Sprachen, besonders im Katalanischen, Italienischen und Französischen Bezug nahm.

Hier wurde nämlich erneut vermerkt, daß in Hispanien mit dem Niedergang des Römischen Imperiums und der Westgotenherrschaft sowohl seitens der romanischen Bevölkerung als auch seitens der herrschenden germanischen Schichten die lateinische Sprache so verderbt worden sei, daß dies zur Entstehung des ‘romance’ und dann schließlich der kastilischen Sprache geführt habe.
